Metastatic patterns of the central nervous system

Tumors in the central nervous system only rarely spread outside the craniospinal space. Certain highly malignant tumors in children such as PNET (medulloblastoma), plexus carcinoma, and germinoma, have a high propensity for spreading with cerebrospinal fluid. These tumors can also spread via cerebrospinal shunts.
