Metastatic patterns of laryngeal cancer

Small vocal cord tumors (T1) rarely metastasize. Larger tumors, especially those localized to the supraglottis, often spread lymphatically to the neck.

Distant metastases are relatively rare at the time of diagnosis (± 2 %), but in cases of spreading, the lungs are the most common localization. With spreading to the lungs or other localizations, the prognosis is very poor
