Etiology of cancer of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses
- Human papilloma virus (HPV) (2) may play a role in inverted papilloma but its role in squamous cell carcinoma is uncertain.
- Beeing exposed to nickel at work increases the risk for developing squamous cell carcinoma (8).
- Beeing exposed to dust from hardwood or dust from leather goods increases the risk for adenocarcinoma (9).
Tobacco is a possible etiological factor (2). The effect snuffing tobacco has on development of cancer is not sufficiently documented.
