Differential diagnoses pharynx cancer

Nasopharynx

  • Benign tumors (rare)
  • Hypertrophy of posterior concha ends
  • Anthrochoanal polyp
  • Enlarged adenoids (rare in adults)
  • Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck from other cause.

Oropharynx and hypopharynx

  • Benign tumors (very rare)
  • Tonsil hyperplasia. With marked asymmetry, a tonsilectomy should be performed for diagnostic purposes. Malignant lymphoma, among other diseases, can originate in the tonsils.  
  • Dysfunction of the cricopharyngeal muscle, pharyngeal pouch (Zenker`s Diverticulum)
  • Globus pharyngis
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Neuralgia and paresis
